Looking for a bass guitar that’s easy playing, with thick, chunky,
punchy tone — and at a price that won’t break the bank? Set
your sites on the Squier Vintage-modi ed Jaguar Bass Special HB!
The Jaguar HB has an agathis body and a maple neck with a rosewood  ngerboard. It sports
a large high-output humbucking pickup near the bridge for a tight, full sound. But this is no
one-tone wonder. The Jaguar HB has an active 3-band EQ onboard for shaping the sound.
You can dial up dark low-end rumble and thump, sparkling and cutting highs, and rich and
deep midrange — or scooped midrange, if that’s your thing — with a simple twist of a dial.
We’re talking a lot of  exibility. You won’t at all feel limited by having just one pickup.
The Vintage-modi ed Jaguar Special HB that I received played great and had excellent
sustain. The  nish was  awless, and the bass had no problems with noise, hum, or hiss. In
other words, it was a  ne instrument, right out of the box.
I’ve had the chance to play a number of different Squier basses recently, and I
have to say, regardless of the price, I’ve been blown away by the build quality,
the  nish, and the woods, as well as by the playability and tone. It’s hard
to equate how nice the Vintage-modi ed Jaguar Bass Special HB feels and
sounds with how much it costs. This is one nice bass!

This FootNote Rocks!
The SKB FootNote pedalboard/combo
amp has to be one of the best-
thought-out tools ever for guitarists.
Whether you’re a pro player looking for a
portable rig you can take anywhere or simply
someone who’s on the go, the SKB FootNote is
just what you need! It accommodates a half dozen
stompboxes and provides power for up to eight pedals. And
when AC power isn’t an option, you can easily switch the
FootNote over to battery power.
But the FootNote de es conventional pedalboard logic
with its built-in 6-watt amp with a 6" Eminence speaker,
perfect for solo practice. An 1/8" stereo input lets you
hook up your MP3 player and rock out to backing tracks.
And when the sound of even a 6-watt amp is too much,
you can operate in stealth mode by plugging in your headphones.
Onstage, you’ll  nd the onboard combo amp indispensable for dialing in your effects before the show. It’s like
having a pedalboard monitor — how cool is that? The FootNote also gives you a built-in cable tester, which can
be a real lifesaver. And for the more intimate shows, you can run the FootNote’s line-out straight into the PA and
use it as a monitor. You can also use the speaker output to plug into an external cabinet. Talk about  exibility!
SKB obviously had their thinking cap on for this one. The
FootNote’s design makes it clear that they’re listening to guitarists
and understand what they need. Call your Sales Engineer today to
get your hands (and feet) on this new guitar super-tool!
Cool Pedalboard
If you work with notation software for music composition, be sure to check out the new
Sibelius 7 software from Avid. Professional composers, music teachers, and worship leaders
have made Sibelius one of the most popular notation programs out there, favoring it for its
ease of use and intuitive layout. So, what makes Sibelius 7 the best version yet?
Avid has redesigned the user interface of Sibelius 7 to be more task oriented. Along the top of
the screen, you’ll  nd the new “Ribbon, a set of tabs that gives you fast access to the most
commonly used features in Sibelius 7. Functions such as Input Notes, Transpose, and Add
Instrument are now just one click away, resulting in a faster work ow.
Sibelius 7 is 64-bit ready to take advantage of your computer’s advanced processing power,
allowing you to access more RAM than ever before. Also included is the most dynamic,
expressive, and realistic instrument library ever included with Sibelius, allowing you to hear your compositions as
you never have before. Not only do you get a plethora of orchestra and symphonic instruments to choose from, but
you also get a wide array of new pop, rock, and jazz instruments. Marching band and drum corps arrangers should
take note too, as Sibelius 7 includes the sounds of the Blue Devils, the world champion drum corps! This is the
most realistic and detailed sound library available for any composition software.
Sibelius 7 gives you enhanced options for printing and exporting your scores. You can export your work as a Music
XML  le for use with other music creation programs, making collaboration easier than ever. You can import Music
XML scores created in other programs. Sibelius 7 makes it easy to export your work as a PDF  le for simple
sharing and archiving. And if you’re printing scores of scores, Sibelius 7 gives you enhanced printing options that
make double-sided printing easier than ever.
Avid has hit a home run with Sibelius 7. The majority of
improvements focus squarely on enhancing the user interface
and making it easy and intuitive for you to compose. There are
more new features than can possibly be listed in this article
— we haven’t even mentioned the redesigned mixer or the
advanced typography features that make text even easier to
work with. Head to Avid.com for great videos that showcase
how Sibelius 7 could be a serious bene t to your composition
and arrangement work ow.
